The Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce Awards ceremony will be on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Encanterra Country Club, located in Queen Creek at 1035 E. Combs Road.

"As Arizona faces a nurse shortage, our newest bachelor's degree is a step in the right direction that will help mitigate this critical workforce shortage in the healthcare industry," said Maricopa County Community College District Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales.

Last month's first job fair of the 2023-2024 school year had 30 job seekers in attendance at the QCUSD office. The next job fair will be on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

EdRising is a national network of teacher leaders and teacher educators providing quality professional development for a career in education to dedicated aspiring educators. More than 3,000 students and educators attended the conference which focused on “Serving Our Community.”

Hospice of the Valley and its Supportive Care for Dementia program launched this student volunteer program in 2021 with a grant from the national Community Care Corps. The goal is to enhance quality of life for people living with early and moderate stages of dementia, and also to reduce caregiver burden.

The next parent presentation on "The Power of Words" will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Queen Creek High School, 22149 E. Ocotillo Road.  It is open to the public and QCPD will discuss with students and parents the power words can have and potential consequences.

At a recent Literacy Night event hosted at Schnepf Elementary, children's author Shelly Sheldon visited the campus to read her book "Heart of a Child" to students and parents.

Lead Out Loud is an organization unique to the Queen Creek Unified School District. It was designed to give select students opportunities to develop leadership skills where they may not have been able to otherwise.

“We join an elite group of colleges and universities nationwide with this recognition that have made it their mission to break down barriers so that all students, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to pursue higher education,” said MCCCD Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales.

In addition to distinguished guests, students have been busy creating heartfelt tributes. They've been diligently coloring flags, each representing a life lost on that fateful day. These flags will be displayed outside the school, serving as a touching visual reminder of the significance of 9/11.
