First QCPD Coffee With a Cop a success

“This is just one example of QCPD’s ongoing efforts to engage with our community," Police Chief Randy Brice said. "We appreciate The Bistro hosting us and look forward to partnering with future businesses.”

As part of its goal to tailor the new Queen Creek Police Department to what the community wants and needs, QCPD co-hosted its first Coffee with a Cop March 31 at The Bistro.

“This is just one example of QCPD’s ongoing efforts to engage with our community," Police Chief Randy Brice said. "We appreciate The Bistro hosting us and look forward to partnering with future businesses.”

Coffee with a Cop is an opportunity for residents to meet their police command staff and officers, ask questions and learn more about the department. The event allows residents and officers to interact in a casual environment, building trust and relationships, according to town officials.

"It was a wonderful experience to know and learn from (the police department)," resident Kin Counts shared on the QCPD Facebook page.

Before the QCPD officially launched on Jan. 11, Brice said they were lucky that Queen Creek residents know what they want in a police department and that it has helped them tailor the new department to what the community wants after spending months listening to residents and understanding their needs prior to launch.

"The community response has been great, they love their public safety," he said in early January. "We're lucky, we're able to tailor things to them and really listen, understand and respond to what the community wants."

Brice has been participating in 20 to 50 community events a month, trying to build up a network of community relationships.

"The Queen Creek culture is hyper focused on community connections and what we do with them is super important," he said. "We have a big responsibility and we've embraced that concept and all things are geared towards making that happen while developing this police force."

All QCPD officers have undergone extensive training, with a focus on decision making, partnerships and community collaboration.

QCPD’s non-emergency number is 480-358-3500.
