Queen Creek presents Citizen Award for life-saving efforts

Young resident Cole Silva was recognized for his quick thinking and heroic actions in saving the life of his 3-year-old sister after he witnessed her fall into the backyard swimming pool in August.

At its Nov. 15 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council joined the Queen Creek Police Department (QCPD) and Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department (QCFMD) in honoring young resident Cole Silva with the Citizen Award.

Cole was recognized for his quick thinking and heroic actions in saving the life of his 3-year-old sister after he witnessed her fall into the backyard swimming pool this summer.

In August, QCPD and QCFMD responded to a call of an unresponsive child who had been found in the backyard swimming pool. Cole witnessed his little sister fall into the swimming pool and without hesitation, sprang into action. He jumped into the pool to rescue his little sister while calling out for help. A family friend heard the cries and met Cole at the steps of the swimming pool. They immediately administered CPR and when police and fire arrived on scene, Cole’s sister was breathing and responsive.

“We are proud to honor an act of bravery by a young man in our community,” said Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice. “Cole’s heroic actions on that day saved the life of his sister. We applaud Cole’s initiative, bravery and selflessness.”
