Queen Creek thanks MCSO for decades of service as new police department launches at midnight Jan. 11

“We are thankful for MCSO’s support and service,” said Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “We have gotten to know and love our District 6 deputies over the years. They are fantastic individuals and have served with heart, dignity and respect.”

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office - District 6 has been the Town of Queen Creek’s contracted law enforcement provider since incorporation in 1989 and at midnight on Jan. 11 they step aside as the town launches its own police department.

“We are thankful for MCSO’s support and service,” said Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “We have gotten to know and love our District 6 deputies over the years. They are fantastic individuals and have served with heart, dignity and respect.”

The Queen Creek Town Council approved establishing a municipal police department at its March 18, 2020 meeting following a comprehensive police study and extensive public outreach. They hired Police Chief Randy Brice, who began his role as chief on July 20, 2020. He was officially sworn in on Dec. 2, 2020.

Brice said the new department consists of 66 employees; 44 officers and detectives, nine supervisors, three lieutenants, the chief himself and nine professional staff members.

"The Queen Creek culture is hyper focused on community connections and what we do with them is super important," Brice said. "We have a big responsibility and we've embraced that concept and all things are geared towards making that happen while developing this police force."

The Queen Creek Police Department takes over MCSO's substation located in the Community Chambers/Law Enforcement building at 20727 E. Civic Parkway.
