Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant helps QCPD officers address speeding, drunk driving

According to the latest numbers released by GOHS, Arizona saw more than 100 alcohol-related fatalities and nearly 350 speed-related fatalities statewide (fiscal year 2022). These two areas continue to be the leading cause of driving fatalities in Arizona.

The Queen Creek Police Department (QCPD) recently received a generous grant of $25,500 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The money has helped QCPD officers address speeding and drunk driving on Queen Creek roadways, including the purchase of speed detection equipment (Kustom Signals ProLaser 4).

“These grants are very helpful in helping us meet our goals, which is to keep our roads safe and ensure that everyone in Queen Creek gets to their destination safely,” said Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice.

“These numbers are concerning. Traffic safety is a priority for my department. We want everyone to be safe on our roadways and to always drive to arrive.” said Brice.

GOHS is the focal point for highway safety issues in Arizona. The cabinet agency provides leadership by developing, promoting and coordinating programs; influencing public and private policy; and increasing public awareness of highway safety. For more information about the GOHS, visit azgohs.gov.
