November 21, 1932 – May 18, 2022

Wayne Arthur Townley, 89, was born in Lacrosse, Wisconsin on November 21st, 1932. He was called home to be with the Lord on May 18th, 2022.

He graduated from Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Illinois in 1952 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. When he returned from the war he married Sally Ann Simpson in 1955 and had a daughter. He married Jill Lynn Fisher in 1966 in Moline, Illinois. He and Jill had three sons. Wayne worked for the U.S. Government. He began his 38 year career working for the Rock Island Arsenal starting his senior year of high school. Upon his return from his service in Korea, he worked as a draftsman for the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Lock and Dam #15 on the Mississippi River.

He transferred to Headquarters, U.S. Army, Armament Munitions and Chemical Command on Arsenal Island where he was a Realty Specialist. Upon his retirement in 1990, he moved to his home in Mesa, AZ, where his wife and family had already relocated in preparation for his retirement. He dedicated himself to caring for his elderly Aunt Gertrude, and brought her with him to Arizona. She lived with the family and enjoyed seeing her three nephews on a daily basis, saying they were the bright spot in her day. Aunt Gertrude lived with the family until she passed away at 92.

He enjoyed being with his sons and sharing his love of classic cars and football with them, especially the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed swimming, roller skating and ice skating, taking care of his cars and going to car shows and events. Being an older father, he was very proud of his three sons and although he was not a very demonstrative father, he loved them unconditionally and was immensely proud of their accomplishments as they grew into young men. He also loved the many pets the family had especially the last one, Ivory, a standard Poodle who was his loyal companion.

His daughter, Deborah Brewer survives in Illinois. His wife of over 55 years, Jill, survives along with son Scott Townley of Phoenix, son and daughter-in-law Chad and Brenda Townley, and son Jared Townley all of Mesa, AZ, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will miss Dad, “Sarge”, Papa, very much.

There will be a visitation for Mr. Townley at 1:00 pm, followed by the service at 2:00 pm Friday, May 27, 2022 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel, 7900 E Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207.
