Marilyn Murray Baker, beloved daughter of Richard Murray and Revella Kimball, was born on February 26th, 1953, in Roosevelt, Utah. She departed this world on March 21st, 2024.
Marilyn had 5 siblings, Gayla, Lana, Kathy, Rick, and Ray. Marilyn was passionate about learning, in high school she was an honor student, a cheerleader, a thespian and active in many school and community events. Her first job was in High School at Sathers Jewelry.
After graduating from Union High School, she pursued her teaching degree at Utah State University, where she majored in English and minored in Theatre. She began her teaching career at Madison High School in 1974 and met, then married, her sweetheart Gary Baker on July 25, 1975. She and Gary were blessed with three boys: Trevor, Brett, and Michael and seven grandchildren Bethany, Jerelyn, Blair, Joella, Logan, Ellie and Laney.
For 31 years Marilyn taught school. Dedicating most of her career to teaching Jr High. Marilyn showed her family her commitment to teaching and her commitment to her students by grading papers at night, on vacations, decorating her school room and coming up with fun teaching plans for her students. Her family saw this consistent work ethic and passion for always putting your heart into what you do and learned that their mother loved to help others. These actions showed how she lived selflessly, teaching and helping her students develop a love for learning. She was an enthusiastic educator who found immense joy in teaching and was treasured by many of her students.
After her retirement in 2014 she found joy by volunteering to cuddle babies in the NICU at hospitals in Idaho Falls and Arizona. She took on a position as a student teaching advisor for BYU-I and ISU where she found a lot of enjoyment in providing mentorship to future teachers.
Marilyn was incredibly service minded throughout her life and tried very hard to follow the teachings of Christ and serve people as He would have. She was a great example to her boys and consistently showed them that love comes through service. She loved life and showed it by always speaking positively and choosing to look at life optimistically. Marilyn was a good friend to many.
She enjoyed camping and learned to ride a motorcycle just to be involved in her boys’ passions and be with family. Later in life, her love of the mountains became more easily enjoyed with UTV’s.
Marilyn’s influence extends to her family, where she found immense joy and fulfillment. Despite the challenges her children may have put her through, the joy she derived from her grandkids made it all worthwhile. The love she felt for Gary, her sons and her grandchildren was immeasurable.
Her family is comforted knowing that she is surrounded by loved ones and was welcomed into heaven with open arms and much love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Rick Murray, nieces, Cami Jo and Jacqueline.
