James Patrick Halpin of Wentworth, SD passed away on March 16, 2023 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.

Jim was born on May 6, 1937 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1955. He attended Augustana College where he played baseball. He also played for the Renner Monarchs. He met his wife Jean at the Renner Corner after a game and were married for 64 years. He retired from Northern States Power in 1999 and enjoyed his retirement years on Lake Madison and Gold Canyon, Arizona.

He was a 50-year Mason and a Shriner. He served the Howard Wood Relay Committee also for 50 years. He also played basketball for Traub Silo and coached the Renner Rangers baseball team for several years. He was a founding member of The Lakes Golf Course on Lake Madison where he took great pleasure in countless rounds of golf. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and trap shooting. He was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Jean, son Randy Halpin and wife Karen, daughter Ellen Bechina and husband Dan, 6 grandchildren, Kyle, Aaron, Shaye, James, Lacey and Randi Lynn, along with 18 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on May 6, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, South Dakota.

In lieu of flowers memorials to be directed to El Riad Transportation Fund.
