Rotary Club of Queen Creek hosting inaugural Rotary Run for Resilience 5K run/walk in support of teen mental wellness May 13

This is the new club’s first fundraiser as they once again partner with mental health professionals, local businesses, the Queen Creek Police Department and more at this inaugural event.

The new Rotary Club of Queen Creek is continuing its focus of bringing awareness to the many issues that affect teen mental wellness and providing resources to the community at its inaugural Rotary Run for Resilience 5K run/walk in support of teen mental wellness this weekend.

“Our inaugural run/walk extends our message from last fall’s hugely successful community event, Raising Resilient Kids, and is a great family-friendly event to kick off Mother’s Day weekend. We’ve partnered with StartLine Racing to make this an official chip-timed event for the active runner, along with participants who prefer to walk or jog at their own pace. We are also hosting a Kids Dash to start off the event,” said Ron Valerio, Rotary Club of Queen Creek board member.

The event will bring together local vendors and mental health professionals to participants, families and community members alike starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre, located at 20464 E. Riggs Road.

Also tentatively expected to attend this event are Queen Creek Town Council members Bryan McClure, Leah Martineau and Dawn Oliphant, along with Mayor Julia Wheatley, the honorary starter.

Those who wish to participate are encouraged to visit rotaryclubqc.com to register. Registration is $35 and includes a T-shirt and medal.

One-hundred percent of the net proceeds will benefit Rotary Club of Queen Creek’s local programs designed to improve youth mental resilience in an effort to mitigate teen suicide.

"Our Raising Resilient Kids event last fall took big strides in bringing awareness to the many issues that affect mental health in teens," explained Jason Jantzen, chair of the Rotary Club of Queen Creek. "This first fundraiser allows Rotary to take actionable steps by funding programs that help build resiliency and provide grants to assist in paying for professional mental health counseling."

With the help of Rotary Club of Gilbert, the new Rotary Club of Queen Creek formed last year to bring together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges on a local basis. Rotary connects 1.4 million members in over 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work improves lives at both the local and international levels, from helping those in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world.
