Addressing violence as a public health issue can seem like a daunting task, but it’s important to remember that violence IS preventable. The public health approaches we apply to chronic disease and other negative health outcomes can also be applied to violence.

We are doing our children no favor, coddling them into thinking they are successful by altering the standard to which they are measured. Once out of school and in the "real world," they will find out fast that less than adequate work will hold them back from the success they want and desire to achieve.

The Teal Pumpkin Project is a simple way to make trick-or-treating more safe and inclusive for children. Placing a teal pumpkin on your doorstep signals that, in addition to candy, you offer non-food trinkets and treats that are safe for all those ghosts, goblins and other scary creatures knocking on your door.

For nearly 30 years, the Arizona Well Woman HealthCheck Program has helped people live longer, healthier lives by providing access to early detection through screening and diagnostic services free of charge. People ages 40 to 65, as well as symptomatic people ages 21 and older, who are uninsured or underinsured can receive clinical breast exams and mammograms free of charge. 

Improving mental health for both ourselves and our communities requires an all-hands-on deck approach. We must work together to create a stronger, healthier and more resilient Arizona.

A new bipartisan "Patient Advocacy Caucus" promises to investigate the drug supply chain middlemen keeping prices high for patients. They've pledged to begin with PBMs. There's a lot more to be done, but that's a good place to start.

Years of high school dances, nightclubs and dating conducted back in "The Flintstones" era showed me after an embarrassing amount of trial and error that competing for a guy was a waste of time; if I expressed interest and he didn’t jump, well, then it was time to move on.
