Bennie Slaughter was born 27 September 1950 in Amarillo, TX and passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side on 9 March 2023 at his home in San Tan Valley, AZ.

He graduated from Angelina College and acquired multiple degrees in business administration.

Bennie served in the US Army as a supply clerk during the Vietnam War. He started with Bridgestone/Firestone in 1980 and was transferred to Mesa, AZ in 1986, where he was a senior field auditor until his retirement in 2008.

Bennie had a passion for music; he and his brothers, James and Bobby, accompanied by their sister Patricia on the piano and were well-known throughout the church community. Bennie enjoyed outdoor activities such as boating, fishing and swimming with his family and friends. He liked to putter in his yard, making it a showcase for everyone to enjoy. He also was famous among family and friends for being Mr. Fix-It.

Bennie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly Katherine Whisenant Slaughter; his son, Kerry; his daughter, Shanna (partner Charlie); grandchildren, Breeana Miner (partner Kyle), Alendreas Slaughter (mother Cara), Elisa Keadle (father Travis); great-grandchildren, Carter Rollins, Addilyn Douglas and Ryder Douglas; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bennie’s surviving siblings include his brothers, James (Angelia) and Eddie; his sisters, Sue Glover (Mitchell) and Patricia Husband; mother-in-law Joenette Whisenant; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Miller, Charmaine Moorehouse, Leea Hyde and Carol Whisenant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Daisy Slaughter, as well as his brother Bobby.

Bennie put his faith in the Grace of Jesus at age twelve. He believed, just as Jesus was resurrected, those who trust in Christ will be as well.

Visitation is scheduled from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Friday, 17 March 2023 at San Tan Mountain View Funeral Home at 21809 S. Ellsworth Rd, Queen Creek, AZ  85142.

Graveside services will be held at San Tan Memorial Gardens at Schnepf Farms, 22425 E. Cloud Rd., Queen Creek, AZ  85142.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bennie Slaughter’s name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
