Queen Creek High School defeated Desert Ridge in their final game of the season on Nov. 12.
Going into the game, boys football head coach Travis Schureman said in an email, “We have tried very hard to just take the season one game at a time. The guys have done a great job of coming to work each day with a purpose. Tonight, we have another great challenge. It should be a great high school football game.”
Highlights included touchdowns by Payton Barlow-33, Sawyer Figueroa-40, and three touchdowns by Sebastian Tomerlin-1.
The final score was 35-16.
It was also Senior Night. Before the game, members of the football team were each recognized individually while they walked across the field with their families and their goals. Then cadets who are seniors delivered flags to the field while the marching band played the national anthem.
Senior members of the cheer and pom pom squads, along with the marching band, were recognized individually and walked with their families at halftime.
Teresa Banhart attended the game because her granddaughter, Kendra Gossamer, is a senior on the pom pom squad.
“It’s been a great year for her,” she said.
