QCUSD teaches civic responsibility; hopes community shows up to vote

Ballots will be mailed Wednesday, Oct. 11 to all QCUSD voters, and a drop box will be available at the QCUSD offices. The voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 10.

In Queen Creek Unified Schools, we teach American values including civic responsibility. As educators, it is our duty to ensure that every student leaves our schools with the knowledge, skills and passion to be active and engaged citizens.

We do this through programs like participatory budgeting and through curriculum like our social studies courses. As with all lessons, we encourage parents and community members to model behavior that will prepare our students to achieve excellence through leadership.

This month, our community will be called to participate in their civic responsibility. Voters will consider a bond and an override continuation that will impact Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) schools and faculty.

In 2021, only 26% of registered voters cast ballots in the all-mail election. In 2022, that number increased to 64% during the midterm elections, but the United States still remains in the bottom half compared to other nations when it comes to voter participation.

Ballots will be mailed Wednesday, Oct. 11 to all QCUSD voters, and a drop box will be available at the QCUSD offices. The voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 10. If you have not yet registered to vote, you can check your status at beballotready.vote.

Dr. Perry Berry has been superintendent of the Queen Creek Unified School District since June 2015.
