The Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) has been awarded the 2023 Champion of Sustainability Award from Salt River Project (SRP).
The SRP Champion of Sustainability Award is given to organizations who exhibit and support SRP’s 2035 sustainability goals. These goals include reducing carbon emissions, maintaining safe and reliable water, growing electrical vehicles (EV) and EV charging stations, reducing waste and promoting community engagement.
QCUSD is a member of SRP’s Business Demand Response Program. This program supports businesses around the state in reducing energy consumption by providing expertise and resources to improve facilities and upgrade equipment resulting in an increase of energy savings.
“We have been improving our lighting, HVAC, etc. by installing LED lights and having occupancy sensors to turn off lights as well as schedules for the HVAC system,” said Cole Morris, QCUSD executive director of operations and construction.
Effective operations and systems is a QCUSD priority area, and since joining the Business Demand Response Program, the district saw a 1,786-kW reduction in energy use.
“We are always striving to improve anywhere we can,” said Morris. “These efforts save tax dollars for the district as well as improve efficiency and longevity of equipment.”
