QCUSD: Jill Devorkin, Melody Romero become national board certified teachers

This certification is considered the most respected professional certification available in education. Obtaining this certificate provides professional development that has an impact on lesson plans, student progress, learning goals and tools that enhance student knowledge.

Silver Valley Elementary teachers Jill Devorkin and Melody Romero are now officially national board certified teachers. They recently received recognition for this exciting milestone during National Board Certification Week.

This certification is considered the most respected professional certification available in education. Obtaining this certificate provides professional development that has an impact on lesson plans, student progress, learning goals and tools that enhance student knowledge.

With 25 different areas of certification, teachers are asked to demonstrate and collect evidence related to the certificate of their choice. Romero is certified in early-middle childhood literacy reading - language arts. Devorkin is certified in early childhood generalist. The process typically takes two to three years to complete.

Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) encourages certification and provides coaching for candidates who are in the process of becoming board certified. QCUSD teachers are eligible for grants through the Arizona K12 Center to pay for the certification.
