Fantasy Hair Show turns EVIT Power Campus into living art gallery Dec. 8

Annual event features elaborate displays, posed models, avant-garde hairstyles

Over 350 cosmetology and aesthetics students are getting ready to show off their creative skills at the annual Fantasy Hair Show this Friday at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) Power Campus.

Cosmetology and aesthetics are two of 50 career training programs offered by EVIT for East Valley high school students and Phoenix-area adults.

The annual Fantasy Hair Show will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 at the EVIT Power Campus, located in east Mesa at 6625 S. Power Road.

During the Fantasy Hair Show, the Power Campus is transformed into a living art gallery of elaborate displays featuring posed models, hairstyles, makeup and costumes.

“Our industry is creative and requires a lot of teamwork. This allows students to work as teams to put on a show,” said cosmetology instructor, Sarah Liu. “It allows parents and family to come and see what their students have been working on and it builds our community. It gives the students a chance to show off their creative side with something exciting and different.”

The students started prepping for the show in October. They are required to make their ideas avant-garde or out-of-the-ordinary to give guests an art gallery experience.

Tickets to the Fantasy Hair Show are $5 (cash only); children 5 and younger can attend for free.

EVIT offers career training programs at two central campuses in Mesa. Cosmetology and aesthetics students at the EVIT Main Campus, located at 1601 W. Main St., will have their hair show in the spring.
