Dr. Lisa Armour named MCCCD’s next executive vice chancellor, provost

Armour will replace Acting Vice Chancellor and Provost of Academic and Student Affairs, Bettina Celis, who assumed the role in July 2022.

After a nationwide search, the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has announced that Dr. Lisa Armour, Ph.D., has been selected as the next executive vice chancellor and provost.

Armour will replace Acting Vice Chancellor and Provost of Academic and Student Affairs, Bettina Celis, who assumed the role in July 2022.

“Dr. Armour's extensive knowledge of academic and student affairs will serve as a valuable addition to our system,” said MCCCD Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales. “The selection committee was impressed by her expertise in strategic planning and baccalaureate degree programs. I look forward to her future contributions to our students, faculty, staff and the community at large.”

Armour currently serves as the vice president for institutional effectiveness and strategic planning at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fl. She previously served as the interim provost and vice president of academic affairs for two years. The multi-campus community is recognized for transferring more students to the University of Florida than any other institution within the state.

In her current position, Armour leads a team of faculty, staff and administrators who are dedicated to ensuring student success across associate degrees and certificates, applied baccalaureate degrees, early college high school programs, continuing education, workforce development and customized training programs.

"The Maricopa County Community College District is an inspiring system dedicated to the success of all students,” said Armour. “I am excited to be joining Chancellor Gonzales and MCCCD faculty and staff in their commitment to excellent education for a better future."

Through her transformational leadership, Armour oversees the college’s strategic planning efforts, translating strategic goals into mission-focused action. In addition, Armour directs integrated planning and assessment to ensure academic excellence and continuous improvements of the college’s certificate and degree programs, student support services and campus operations.

Prior to joining Santa Fe College, Armour served as the dean of mathematics at Valencia College, where she also taught mathematics. As a faculty governance leader, Armour played an integral role in creating Valencia’s Teaching and Learning Academy, which provides a national model of excellent faculty support at learning-centered colleges.

A disciplined problem solver, Armour earned a bachelor’s and master's degree in mathematics from Rollins College and the University of Florida, respectively. Armour received her doctorate in industrial engineering from the University of Central Florida.

Armour will assume the role on Dec. 4.
