Candlelight vigil in honor of Jamiere Jenkins set for Dec. 13

The candlelight vigil will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Combs High School football stadium, located at 2505 E. Germann Road in San Tan Valley.

As the Combs High School community continues to mourn the tragic loss of Jamiere Jenkins, 17, a candlelight vigil will be held in his honor at the school's football stadium this week, where students, staff and families are invited to gather in support of his family and to honor the junior's life.

"We express gratitude for the continued love and support that has been extended to our grieving community, and appreciate the continued understanding in asking that this event serve as a sacred space for our students, families and staff to support one another during this time of profound loss," the J.O. Combs Unified School District stated in a Dec. 8 press release. "The Combs community will continue to hold the Jenkins family and those dearest to them in our thoughts."

The candlelight vigil will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at the Combs High School football stadium, located at 2505 E. Germann Road in San Tan Valley.

Friends, classmates and families are invited to gather in support as they honor Jamiere’s memory. Brief remarks will be shared by those close to him, followed by a ceremonial vigil led by the Combs High School Football Team and Coalition of Students of Color, and supported by the Combs High School Student Council.

Jamiere died Nov. 28 after an argument in a neighborhood park that resulted in him being shot in the neck by another teen, who was taken into custody by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. They said the teen is not being named because he is a minor.
