At QCUSD, we proudly cultivate an environment that encourages musical exploration, development of well-rounded students

Our commitment to fostering excellence in music education ties into our mission to cultivate well-rounded individuals. Music plays a crucial role in student development, and we aim to empower our students to reach their fullest potential, both academically and creatively.

March is Music in Our Schools Month, which means it's time to celebrate the remarkable music programs and student achievements within the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD).

At QCUSD, we proudly cultivate an environment that encourages musical exploration and the development of well-rounded students. Music education plays a critical role in a student’s development as it promotes creative thinking and has a positive impact on confidence. By choosing QCUSD, your students will not only thrive but also experience new and exciting opportunities within our music programs.

In each of our elementary schools, students are provided with opportunities to build a solid foundation in music. In fact, many students receive their very first introduction to musical learning through their special elective classes in school. QCUSD is committed to fostering programs that fit different interests and grow with the students. Across all schools, fifth-grade students have the option to advance their skills in band or orchestra.

This year, several of our junior high and elementary orchestras had the unique opportunity to perform in the Electric Orchestra Concert with renowned musician Mark Wood. Students played hit songs like "Viva La Vida," by Coldplay, and "Blinding Lights," by The Weekend, alongside the musical legend.

Many of our music programs competed in festivals held by the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association (ABODA) this year. At these festivals, ensembles performed in front of judges and clinicians, who then provided scores and feedback to help the ensembles enhance their performances. Eastmark High School Symphonic Band achieved the highest rating, “Superior with Distinction,” at the ABODA Fall Band Festival.

QCUSD’s high schools have a range of music programs for every interest and skill level. Our esteemed music programs help students expand their musical knowledge and give them an environment where they can achieve success and recognition. In one instance, 17 QCUSD students were selected to join the Arizona Music Educators Association Central Region Honor Band and Orchestra.

Several QCUSD students are on track to earn the Arizona State Seal of Arts Proficiency from the Arizona Department of Education. These students join the ranks of 48 other QCUSD students who have received the award, recognizing their proficiencies in arts, music, theater and dance programs both inside and outside of school.

Choosing a school in the Queen Creek Unified School District means that every student receives a comprehensive education across all disciplines, including the arts. Our commitment to fostering excellence in music education ties into our mission to cultivate well-rounded individuals. Music plays a crucial role in student development, and we aim to empower our students to reach their fullest potential, both academically and creatively.

Dr. Perry Berry has been superintendent of the Queen Creek Unified School District since June 2015.
