On the Oct. 17 episode of The Voice’s Battle Rounds, Reina Ley from San Tan Valley went head-to-head with teammate Grace Bello on Team Camila. At 13 years old, Ley is one of the youngest artists in the competition. Her father is from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, and her Mexican heritage plays a big role in her life. On stage, she loves to wear colorful traditional dresses to help keep her performances true to her culture. Ley also loves connecting to the history of Mexico through mariachi music. While she loves singing in Spanish, country music is a big part of her life growing up in Arizona. On one occasion, Ley sang a mariachi song called “Cielito Lindo” at a church talent show. This taught her that despite being nervous, she gained a sense of confidence like she hadn’t felt before.
