QCUSD Principal Brian Butson named Administrator of the Year by Arizona Health & Physical Education

Brian Butson, principal of Frances Brandon Pickett Elementary School in the Queen Creek Unified School District, has been recognized as Administrator of the Year for 2021.

The Arizona Health and Physical Education Board of Directors has announced its 2021 Arizona award winners and Brian Butson, principal of Frances Brandon Pickett Elementary School in the Queen Creek Unified School District, has been recognized as Administrator of the Year.

"Brian Butson has only been an administrator for four years, but he's made a huge impact on his staff and students," said Dr. Jennifer Houston, president of Arizona Health and Physical Education. "He is supportive to all staff and is inclusive in the decision-making process for staff and programs. He is a hands-on administrator, often helping students one-on-one and is open to help and support wherever needed. Brian is a huge asset in supporting special areas, including physical education."

Arizona Health and Physical Education provides leadership through continuing professional development and advocacy that ensures effective delivery of evidence-informed school physical education and community based physical activity programs that foster healthy, active and physically literate youth.

"These rock stars of our profession will be recognized and honored on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix," Houston said. "Along with our 2021 awardees, Arizona Health and Physical Education will also honor the 2020 awardees that did not get to have an in-person award presentation (last year, due to COVID-19 health restrictions)."

This morning, Buston had this to say upon hearing he has been honored: "It’s always great to get recognized for anything, but health and physical education is very important to me. Physical wellness in general is a huge priority in my life, so this award is very special for me."

Frances Brandon Pickett Elementary School is located at 22076 E. Village Loop Road.

"I am the proud principal of Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary. It is my pleasure to welcome you to Mustang Nation and what we feel is the best elementary school in the state of Arizona. In my time here we have worked hard to continue the level of excellence set forth in years passed. We are an “A” rated school, according to the Arizona Department of Education, and this is due in large part to my amazing staff and teachers. We work hard to meet the needs of every student. You will not find a more caring and supportive school community anywhere," Butson wrote on his school's website.

"I encourage each of you to get involved in our school and community," he continued. "We would love for you to join our PTO or volunteer for opportunities that we offer throughout the year. In closing, I realize that we are entering into a school year that is uncertain and not like any other. However, we are grateful that you have chosen us and my staff, and I will give our full effort to keep your kids safe and able to learn."
