Neighborhood meeting for General Plan amendment April 30

The General Plan amendment would continue to protect the Rural Land Use category from incompatible uses and ensure development meets the town’s high quality design standards that apply to all land use categories.

The Town of Queen Creek is currently considering a major General Plan amendment. A neighborhood meeting will be held to provide additional information and gather input. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. at the Queen Creek Library in the Zane Grey Room.

If approved, the General Plan amendment would provide potential opportunities to consider limited commercial development within the Rural Land Use category. The town wants to maintain the overall vision for the Rural Land Use category and would include criteria to ensure it is compatible with and complements the area.

In the past year, the town has received a significant increase in proposed commercial zoning and site plan applications in the town’s municipal planning area (MPA) within the Rural General Plan Land Use category. The proposed General Plan amendment is intended to be a strategic update that outlines parameters for development in that area, including site size, building heights and setbacks, allowable uses, landscape buffers, access, design standards, etc.

The General Plan amendment would continue to protect the Rural Land Use category from incompatible uses and ensure development meets the town’s high quality design standards that apply to all land use categories.

The General Plan serves as the town's road map to guide development, manage growth and conserve natural resources. The General Plan contains a vision supported by goals, strategies and actions to guide town development, support a sustainable and robust economy, provide quality recreation and effectively conserve Queen Creek’s natural resources. State law requires communities to prepare and adopt a General Plan every 10 years with input from the community. The 2018 General Plan was approved by voters on May 15, 2018. To view the 2018 Queen Creek General Plan, visit QueenCreekAZ.gov/PlanQC.
