Honor Flight Arizona connects military generations

“It’s a privilege to again connect veterans from as far back as WWII with future military leaders from Embry-Riddle,” said Robert Krug, vice president of Honor Flight Arizona. “Seeing them bond during the trip and bridge the generations is something very unique and special.”

Honor Flight Arizona launched its spring 2024 flying season on March 26.

The first trip yesterday included a veteran who served in three wars (World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War) and four ROTC cadets from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, who served as guardians on the flight. This is the eighth year that cadets have accompanied the veterans.

“It’s a privilege to again connect veterans from as far back as WWII with future military leaders from Embry-Riddle,” said Robert Krug, vice president of Honor Flight Arizona. “Seeing them bond during the trip and bridge the generations is something very unique and special.”

This season’s trip dates are:

  • March 26-28
  • April 10-12
  • April 23-25
  • May 8-10
  • May 21-23

The flights will include veterans from all branches of service from the Korean War to the Vietnam War.

Since its inception, Honor Flight Arizona has flown almost 3,000 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to Washington, D.C. to see their memorials.

Honor Flight Arizona took its first flight of 11 WWII Veterans in November 2009. Trips have also included more than 2,100 guardians who assist the veterans along the way.

Veterans from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War are encouraged to sign up for their free Honor Flight online at honorflightaz.org/veterans.

Honor Flight Arizona is part of the nationwide Honor Flight Network. Both are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations able to do the great work they do because of generous private donations and corporate support.
