The Mesa Community College Art Department and Student Life and Leadership is hosting the MCC 10th Annual Festival of the Arts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 8  p.m. on Thursday, March 21 at the Theatre Lawn on the Southern and Dobson Campus, located at 1833 W. Southern Ave. in Mesa.

This event is going on today and is free and open to the public. The Festival of the Arts features MCC’s DJ Program, student bands, live performances, food trucks and more than 50 student and community artists selling a wide variety of art and handmade items.

“We’re happy to be continuing our decade-long tradition of bringing students and our community together to celebrate the arts at MCC,” said Dr. Gingher Leyendecker, MCC Art Department chair. “The event showcases our amazing student artists, musicians, dancers, theater performers, poets and storytellers. It’s always a fun day. We get visits from the MCC Children’s Center, local high schools and even from our friends at Friendship Village. The whole community is invited and encouraged to attend. Plus, this is the first year we’re adding an evening session.”

MCC Student Life and Leadership Student Ambassador Logan Farmer says another new addition to the festivities is a silent auction: “Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Student Support Foundation to help students in need.”

MCC’s Art Department features degree tracks, certificates and courses for personal and professional enrichment in drawing, painting, ceramics, design, art history, computer graphics and photography. The Art Department also includes the Art Gallery, a dedicated exhibition and creative learning space designed to facilitate an exciting variety of shows, events, classes and workshops for MCC students and the community.
