Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Foundation for Community & Health Advancement commits $5M to mental health, offers grant opportunity

“We’ve always had a strong commitment to improving the health of Arizonans, and the foundation is the framework that will allow us to take that commitment one step further,” said Dr. Christine Wiggs, president and board chair for the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Foundation for Community and Health Advancement.

It’s no secret that mental health matters now more than ever. While it has always been vital to our whole health, the pandemic has exacerbated the need for mental health services and support.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Foundation for Community and Health Advancement is investing $5 million over three years to mental health programs and applied research. This year alone, the foundation will award up to $2 million in grant funding to promote positive mental health and save lives.

Currently, the foundation is accepting mental health proposals through Monday, April 4, at 5 p.m. MST, for projects that expand statewide resources, reduce stigma and connect people to care. Potential areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Expanding access to mental health services.
  • Suicide prevention.
  • Youth mental health.
  • Intersection of mental health and substance use disorder or health equity.
  • COVID-19 effect.
