Athletes gathering in Queen Creek to compete in first-ever AZPVA international competition

"Athletes from around the world are flying in to compete at our facility with us coaches (all three of our club coaches are currently training full time to make an Olympic team). AZPVA will be providing accommodations/housing for all athletes at no cost. Entry will be free to the public for both competitions," said Nathan Hiett, track coach and athlete at the Arizona Pole Vault Academy in Queen Creek. "The Olympic dream resonates deep in the athletic community."

World class athletes are gathering from around the globe this weekend in Queen Creek to compete at the Arizona Pole Vault Academy (AZPVA) in its first-ever international competition.

Ten athletes have flown in from four countries (the U.S., Canada, Mexico and New Zealand) to compete in the pole vault in Queen Creek at AZPVA, located at 23238 S. Vía Del Arroyo.

The "sponsored" competition kicks off at 3:30 p.m., with the official competition starting at 5 p.m. tonight, May 20, and will most likely end by 6:30 p.m.

There will be a second competition on Sunday, May 22 to provide one more opportunity for athletes to improve their world rank and to make the trip completely worth their while. "

"The Olympic dream resonates deep in the athletic community. Track and field has a unique passion behind every event - it requires a level of self motivation and discipline beyond comparison. Following the incredible stories of athletes who built a career against all odds, training on top of their day-to-day careers, sacrificing comfort and stability keep us inspired and humbled. Our vision is to create financial opportunities throughout the seasons to fuel their fire with more than just money, but also with the knowledge that their community they represent supports them."
