Waymo begins curbside terminal service at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

The terminal service is currently available to select riders from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. as Waymo continues testing the complex driving environment. In the coming months, they intend to offer these pick-up locations to all riders, with the goal to expand it to 24/7 service.

Waymo One riders can now get picked up or dropped off curbside at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Terminals 3 and 4 during this busy holiday travel season.

The terminal service is currently available to select riders from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. as Waymo continues testing the complex driving environment. In the coming months, they intend to offer these pick-up locations to all riders, with the goal to expand it to 24/7 service.

These convenient new options are in addition to current stress-free pick-up locations at Sky Harbor’s 24th Street and 44th Street SkyTrain stations, the latter of which opened this time last year. In that time, they’ve served tens of thousands of rides and are currently serving over a thousand rides each week. Riders have enjoyed the convenience of these trips, as the average trip rating is approximately 4.7/5 stars.

Waymo has worked hand-in-hand with Sky Harbor officials to reach this new milestone and is excited to deepen the partnership.

“Last year, we partnered with Waymo to become the first airport in the world to offer travelers the ability to take an autonomous vehicle to the airport. This partnership has allowed us to develop confidence in the technology, and we’re excited to take the next step and safely expand this innovative service to our terminal curbs,” said Chad Makovsky, aviation director at Sky Harbor International Airport.

The news was announced Dec. 14 on Waymo’s social channels, which features a video showing how this service works.

“Navigating the often complex and dynamic nature of airport terminals is surely a unique challenge for the Waymo Driver. Safely testing and deploying this new autonomous capability is only made possible by our close partnership with Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and we thank them for taking this ride with us,” said Nicole Gavel, head of business development and strategic partnerships at Waymo.
