Twisted Sugar opens new location in Queen Creek

The new location at 24750 S. Ellsworth Road in Queen Creek opened May 5 at noon and included giveaways for the first 100 customers, as well as free samples.

Queen Creek just got a little sweeter.

Twisted Sugar, known for its specialty cookies, sodas and signature Twisters, opened a new location Friday in Queen Creek to a line of excited customers that wrapped around the building.

The store, located at 24750 S. Ellsworth Road, had giveaways for their first 100 customers that included a Twisted Sugar tumbler, gift card, T-shirt and keychain. Free samples were also available at a table manned by two Twisted Sugar employees, who were there to answer questions and assist customers.

The promise of giveaways and delectable treats was hard for locals to ignore, with many lining up around 9 a.m. - three hours before the official opening at noon - to secure their place in line and ensure they received a goody bag.

Katie Sabin, a San Tan Valley resident, and her friend, Ashli Caldwell, a Queen Creek resident, couldn't pass up the opportunity to grab a goody bag for themselves, while treating themselves to the delicious cookies and drinks the store has become known for.

"We waited in line for about 90 minutes," said Sabin. "We love Twisted Sugar and wanted to get the tumbler they had as part of their giveaway."

Sabin is a fan of their Crinkle cookie, a chocolate brownie cookie dusted with powdered sugar, although she acknowledged many of their flavors are delicious.

"The Crinkle cookie is my favorite, but I'm boring," she laughed.

Caldwell's favorite is their Swizzle Sugar cookie - a sugar cookie that is topped with a unique blend of coconut frosting, raspberry drizzle and fresh lime. For those following an alternative diet, Twisted Sugar also carries the Num Gourmet desserts line for customers who'd like a low-carb, sugar-free or gluten-free option.

In addition to the many cookies they offer, Twisted Sugar is also known for their specialty beverages made with a variety of sodas, ice cream, fruit syrups and whipped cream. Customers can create their own or choose one of the many combos Twisted Sugar has concocted.

"I really love the Jitterbug," said Caldwell. "I get it with Diet Coke and it has mango [puree], coconut and fresh lime."

Besides the giveaways and treats, they also have a friend who is involved with this newest location, so they wanted to stop by.

"We wanted to come by to support our friends while also supporting a small business in our community," Caldwell said.

Jordyn Davis, an employee of Twisted Sugar who divides her time between the Gilbert, Coppers Basin and now Queen Creek location, was excited by the turnout and appreciative to the customers who came to celebrate the May 5 grand opening.

Although she has only worked at Twisted Sugar for two weeks, she loves her job and said the store environments are like "one big family."

"Everyone is so encouraging and supportive," said Davis. "Everyone really loves their job and it's hard not to love coming to work when everyone is singing, dancing and happy right when you walk in."
