Queen Creek Costco slated for late-January opening

The store's shell is done but there has been some supply chain issues to deal with.

The Queen Creek Costco is coming along nicely and with outside signage now up, many residents are eager to find out when it will officially open at Ellsworth and Queen Creek roads.

Vice Mayor Jeff Brown and Councilmember Julia Wheatley recently took a tour and Brown posted a Facebook update, saying that Costco is "still slated to open in late January. The store's shell is done but there has been some supply chain issues to deal with... specifically the 'switchgear' which is what drives all the lighting, refrigeration and basically anything electrical inside a 150,000-square-foot retail big box."

Brown said the Costco fuel islands will likely open around Jan. 5, ahead of the actual store opening. He offered this tidbit: "Our Costco QC location will have 32 spots to fuel as opposed to 16 spots at most of the other area locations!"

He picked up all this information from getting "to meet with the Costco QC's general manager (Mary in blue shirt) and her management crew for the store (Chris in blue/gray shirt, Anthony in salmon shirt and Shanna in burgundy shirt) and to tour the store. The place is empty today but the signage is up around the perimeter and we got to see where QC residents will be buying those pizza slices and rotisserie chickens (we're talking 3,500 to maybe over 5,000 of them per week here) along with all manner of top-quality national and regional brands, with a 100% satisfaction guarantee."

Costco QC has been a victim of supply chain issues with its electrical switchgear, which refers to a centralized collection of circuit breakers, fuses and switches (circuit protection devices) that function to protect, control and isolate electrical equipment. The circuit protection devices are mounted in metal structures. A collection of one or more of these structures is called a switchgear line-up or assembly.
