Mother-daughter boutique owners share family dynamics, careers in fashion

“We are inspiring women of color to jumpstart their fashion careers since creativity has different lanes and an endless amount of opportunity," Tara Swan said. "Showing them that there is a need for women of color in this industry and a similar audience waiting for them to create a brand for them to wear.”

Phoenix mother-daughter triple threat powerhouses Tequilla, Tara and Janet Swan of Klassy Kloset Boutique are tailoring to both millennials and older woman.

"Our brand is for the modern women who’s typically in joggers with a high bun during the day, but who wants to spice it up for date night, with a high slit dress or sequins," said Tequilla Swan. "We cover clothing for the business professional, but also for the party girl headed out for a fun weekend."

The team loves hand-picking pieces, allowing the versatility of something for everyone. Working full time at banking jobs and hunting for those impossible-to-find looks on the side, each piece is high-quality, yet affordable, and a look each of the Swan women would personally wear.

“My mom usually finds the pieces and runs them by us and we decide collectively which pieces to have in our store," Janet Swan said. "Tara’s job is to manage social media posting, modeling pieces and running our website. I handle events and creative ideas to promote the business.”

Launched in 2018, Klassyklosetboutique.com is based out of Phoenix, but ships anywhere in the USA.
