Halloween tips from Queen Creek public safety officials

Includes town trash and recycling reminders.

The Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department and the Queen Creek Police Department are offering the following Halloween safety tips for residents to help keep everyone safe this month as they're out and about at various trick-or-treating events.

Costumes:

Choose costumes that are bright or add reflective tape for greater visibility. Make sure masks are secure and that costumes do not obstruct vision. Costumes, wigs and accessories should be flame resistant. Avoid long or baggy costumes and wear shoes that fit, to prevent tripping.

Drive safely:

  • Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road.
  • Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs.
  • Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your lights on earlier to spot children from greater distances.

Halloween night:

  • A responsible adult should always accompany young children.
  • Carry a flashlight to be seen.
  • Go only to well-lit houses and remain on porches.

Halloween safety:

  • Never enter a home or car for treats.
  • Cross streets at corners, and never between two vehicles.
  • Watch for cars driving into or backing out of driveways.
  • Do not eat treats until they are checked by an adult at home.
  • Confine household pets for the evening and check that they are wearing collars and identification tags.

Remember these Halloween trash & recycling tips:

  1. Candy wrappers cannot be recycled! Place them in the trash.
  2. The plastic bags Halloween candy is sold in cannot be recycled in your blue cart. Check with your local grocery store to see if they are currently accepting plastic bags for recycling.
  3. Halloween decorations including pumpkins should go in your trash cart for disposal.
