Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant helps QCPD officers address DUI

“We are so grateful for this support. Our overall goal is to keep our roads safe and ensure that everyone in Queen Creek gets to wherever they’re going safely. Grants like this are crucial to helping our agency get the technology our officers need to be able to do their jobs thoroughly and accurately,” said Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice.

The Queen Creek Police Department (QCPD) received a grant of $132,377 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. QCPD is using the funding to help address speeding and impaired driving by purchasing equipment and having more officers assist with traffic enforcement. The equipment includes radar guns, portable breath testers (PBT’s) and the Intoxilyzer 9000.

According to the latest numbers released by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Arizona is seeing an increase in the number of DUI arrests statewide. Officers made 1,963 DUI arrests between Dec. 1 and Dec. 31, 2021, a 13% increase from 2020.

“Statewide, the numbers are concerning. Traffic safety has been a high priority for this department since we launched. We have officers on every shift dedicated to traffic enforcement here in Queen Creek, and grants like this help us make that a reality,” Brice said.
