QCSEF softball tourney hits fundraising out of the park

"The foundation and our business partners work hard to put on this tournament," said Queen Creek resident Tyler Shupe, QCSEF treasurer. "Not only is it a great time, but knowing we're making a difference to local students and teachers makes it even more rewarding."

The Queen Creek Schools Education Foundation's (QCSEF) Third Annual Softball Tournament hit it out of the park Wednesday, raising more than $40,000 for teacher grants and student scholarships in the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD).

The QCSEF partners with businesses and the community to promote excellence through leadership in education, providing financial support for students and teacher projects.

Between the business community and the QCUSD, the softball tournament brought 12 teams and dozens of sponsors to support education on March 2. This year's tournament was hosted by Legacy Sports at its new Bell Bank Park in Mesa, and raised more money than in previous years.

While Rytan Construction won the championship, local schools will reap the benefits of this tournament.

Tyler Shupe, QCSEF treasurer and a Queen Creek resident, said the real winners of the day were teachers and students in the QCUSD.

"The foundation and our business partners work hard to put on this tournament," Shupe said. "Not only is it a great time, but knowing we're making a difference to local students and teachers makes it even more rewarding."
