Crismon High School (CHS) recently welcomed new students at its freshman orientation with the help of the CHS Link Crew.

Link Crew is a club that helps new students learn the ins and outs of the Queen Creek campus and brings excitement for the new school year, which began on July 22. Link Crew helps makes the transition from junior high to high school easier as they help answer questions, find classrooms, and be a familiar face for incoming freshmen.

This year, two CHS Link Crew members, Olivia Smith and Alexandra Merlos, shared their experience, highlighting the impact this program has had on them and other students.

"I feel like welcoming kids is one of the most important things at a new school," said Smith. "Having connections with high-schoolers, particularly upperclassmen, can make them (new students) feel more comfortable."

Smith and Merlos both put emphasis on the importance of personally welcoming new students the CHS.

"We're here to bring spirit and hope, so they can make connections and build relationships among themselves," added Merlos.

Link Crew benefits not just new students, but gives its members a sense of pride as well. Smith and Merlos have both found that the effort they put into Link Crew returns to them throughout the school year.

"Seeing all the kids having fun and recognizing me in the hallway brings so much joy," shared Smith. "It shows that they feel welcome and that I've done my job correctly."

Merlos agreed.

"Especially the smiles," added Merlos. "A lot of kids come in scared, but when they see they can build connections with upperclassmen, they feel more comfortable. It brings a lot of joy to us when they recognize us in the hallway."

Smith and Merlos expressed what they hope Crismon High School freshmen would take away from the orientation event.

"I hope they know they can really set the role here, prove that they belong, and feel important to the school. They can set traditions and know they have a place here," said Smith.

Alexandra encouraged freshmen to enjoy their time and prioritize their goals.

"These four years go by fast. Set your mind and be determined, especially if you want to pursue something in the future," added Alexandra.

Link Crew is more than just a welcoming committee. It's a vital part of the school culture that helps students build connections, feel comfortable on campus, and sets the stage for their high school career.
