Exploring with her family is a part of Jana Tingom's everyday life. As the creators behind Phoenix With Kids, a popular social media platform and website dedicated to family-friendly activities across Arizona, Jana Tingom and her husband, Chris, have turned their passion for exploration into a go-to resource for both locals and visitors.
Phoenix With Kids started as her husband’s project—a simple list of fun things to do with kids in Phoenix. “Chris started a website with dozens of ideas,” Tingom said. “Then he added more ideas and started writing reviews.”
As their family expanded, so did the platform. In 2015, after the birth of their second child, Tingom jumped in to help create content, and Phoenix With Kids evolved into what it is today: a thriving online space ranking #1 for family-friendly activities in Phoenix and beyond.
Since starting they’ve grown their website, phoenixwithkids.net, and @phoenixwithkids on Instagram, Facebook and Youtube. They’ve also expanded to Flagstaff, @flagstaffwithkids, Tucson, @tucsonwithkids and started sharing kid friendly foodie finds on @azfoodwithkids.
A passion for sharing Arizona’s hidden gems
Originally from Wisconsin, Tingom moved to Arizona in 2010 after meeting and marrying her husband. They now have three children, ages 6, 10, and 13.
“Both my husband and I have enjoyed traveling and documenting adventures online before getting married, so exploring Arizona as a family and sharing those adventures is simply continuing what we love,” Tingom said. “Arizona is an amazing state to explore. It’s so diverse and I don’t feel like people really know that it’s much more than cactus and desert.”
Through Phoenix With Kids their goal is to inspire families to go out with their children and make memories. Their account highlights everything from local parks and museums to road trip destinations and seasonal events. Whether it’s a hidden splash pad in the suburbs, a scenic family-friendly hike, or an exciting new exhibit at a local museum, Tingom loves visiting new places with her family, making memories, and then sharing that with others.
Making family adventures simple and accessible
For Tingom, the heart of Phoenix With Kids isn’t just about discovering fun places—it’s about making family outings easy and accessible for everyone.
“Exploring with the family doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive! What counts is the time spent together,” Tingom said. “Whether it's a museum tour, a day trip to a state park, or a simple park visit, you have the chance to connect with your kids.”
One fun fact many people don’t know about Tingom? She and her husband were both homeschooled—and now they homeschool their own three children.
“Homeschooling fits in so well with Phoenix With Kids,” Tingom said. “Hands-on learning and field trips are some of the best ways to learn.”
Building community through social media
Her platform is not just about entertainment—it also serves as an educational resource, helping families discover enriching experiences like science centers, historical landmarks, and interactive museums.
On their website you can read their blog, browse things to do by city, find upcoming events, check out their videos and explore their different guides. From holiday events to summer camps, hikes, day trips, things to do indoors and everything in between, Phoenix With Kids has you covered.
As their platform continues to grow their hope is to keep inspiring more families to embrace adventure.
“We’d love to connect with other families online or via our website,” Tingom said. Whether through social media, blog posts, or in-person connections, she’s committed to showing just how much Arizona has to offer.
