Kay, known as @azfoodguy on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube has transformed his passion for food, culture and storytelling into a thriving online presence.

Located in Scottsdale, Kay has embraced the growing culinary and entertainment scene, becoming a trusted voice for foodies, event enthusiasts, and anyone looking for their next big adventure. His journey began as a creative experiment during a pivotal life moment in 2020.

“At the time, I was working an office job, and then out of nowhere I got let go. They gave me a huge severance package, enough to cover my living expenses for two years… Instead of panicking, I saw it as an opportunity to try something new,” Kay said. “I had my LinkedIn set up and my resume polished, but honestly it all felt a little boring… I always wanted to do something more creative, something that felt like me. That’s when I decided to give being an influencer a shot.”

A journey of self discovery

“I’ve been in the Valley pretty much my whole life,” Kay said. “I’ve been able to watch the Valley grow alongside me. What used to be known as an area with nothing to do transformed into this vibrant place where there’s always something new happening.”

Kay’s connection to the state runs deep. Growing up as the only Asian kid in a Mexican neighborhood, he fondly recalls his first experience trying menudo and tacos at a neighbor’s house. These moments of cultural exchange laid the foundation for his love of exploring food and flavors.

Building a community through food

“These days I’m always out and about trying new restaurants, checking out live music or just finding cool experiences to share with my audience. What I love most is meeting people,” Kay said. “I’ve connected with chefs, musicians, other content creators and just fascinating people with amazing stories.”

With his content, it’s not just about the food or a particular event, it’s about the stories and the people behind them.

While he’s always getting to share his latest favorite spots, he’s also learning new spots from his followers. “They’re always sharing their favorite places, hidden gems or unique experiences they’ve had and it turns into this amazing circle of inspiration and energy,” Kay said. “At the end of the day, I just want us all to have fun, experience those good vibes and remember that life doesn’t have to be boring. There’s so much to explore.”

Some favorite memories include filming with rapper Ice-T at Raising Cane’s and having chef Tyler Florence from the Food Network personally cook a Tomahawk steak for him. He’s also had the opportunity to collaborate with incredible Japanese restaurants while exploring the culture and food scene in another country.

Looking ahead

In addition to growing his brand, Kay is working on doing more long-form YouTube videos. His goal is to create a ‘travel, eat and explore’ channel for Arizona.

“What’s most rewarding about all of this is the sense of possibility,” Kay said. “It feels like the sky’s the limit, and that’s such a good, hopeful feeling. Every new opportunity reminds me that there’s so much more to discover and I can’t wait to see what’s next.”
