Join 21-year-old San Tan Valley resident and singer/songwriter Max Weinman at SoZo Coffee House on Oct. 11. The shop is located within the Pollack Warner Plaza at 1982 N. Alma School Road in Chandler. At 7:30 p.m. Weinman will take the stage and perform his first album “Max Weinman.”

Free to guests, he’ll be singing songs off his self-titled album that dropped on Aug. 17. The album is currently available to stream on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music.

Growing up, Weinman always loved singing. However, it wasn’t until his first heartbreak at 14 that he began writing his own music. Teaching himself how to play piano and keyboard, Weinman attended Learning Founding and Performing Arts school in high school where his love for music continued to grow.

Seizing every opportunity to perform, open mic nights became a part of his regular routine, SoZo Coffee House became one of his favorite spots to play.

“One of the biggest moments early on was playing 'Border Song,' by Elton John and, after I finished the song, I got this crazy applause,” Weinman said. “After the show, so many people came up to me and told me to keep doing what I was doing, that I was going to go far and have a gift. That was definitely one of the biggest moments early on that inspired me to keep going.”

With some of his biggest inspirations being Billy Joel, Elton John and the Beatles, he describes his music as a mix of classic rock, singer songwriter ballads, soft rock and retro rock with influence from the 60s and 70s.

His goal is to play as many shows as he can, promote his album and possibly tour at some point. Down the line he wants to release another album with more original music.

“It’s all personal experiences - break-ups, falling out with friends, etc. It’s very much exclusively personal stuff and also things going on in the world that’s close to my heart,” Weinman said. “Just the fact that people I don’t even know have reached out to me saying that they love the album and can’t wait to hear more means so much to me.

“There have been instances where I’ll play some of my original work and people have cried a little bit and that’s really touching… I just want to see how far I can go.”

One of his favorite lines he’s written is in his song titled “In Our Silence.” It goes, “Oh if we let this story have an end, I hope someday someway our paths will cross again. Though I’d never, ever want to be just your friend.”

At just 21, this is only the start of his musical journey. “You just have to go for it,” Weinman said. “You’re never going to know what will happen unless you try.”
